A spontaneous trip to a battlefield on Christmas Eve in Spotsylvania, Va. I took along 3 different cameras the Nikon D3000, D70 and a Canon AE-1 film camera. Although an overkill in this situation it was an opportunity to compare comfort versus usability. I mostly prefer the film camera as its a easier and lighter(duh) but sadly it is a costly process. Below are the results.

While waiting on some film to get developed, I decided to walk around and visit some of the independent sellers along the street side. There was a parade later that evening so people were just starting to arrive and pick out the best locations. As I made my way around I came across this very nice lady(whose name escapes me) that had a rather upbeat story. A city worker for 57 years, she began commenting on her upcoming retirement and her passion for knitting and giving to those in need. Once a week she makes the journey from Washington D.C. to Louisa to hand out her latest creations to friends , family, and strangers alike. Although having a full assortment to choose from on this day, she stated that she had many other boxes all throughout D.C. and Richmond that she has made over the years. Believing that giving is the greatest thing you can do, she explained it as an "overwhelming feeling of joy and satisfaction" in giving out these one of a kind creations. In 38 degree temperatures she was able to keep a smile , even with the wind making it feel in the 20s. Her generosity is not lost on me as I will donate the knit caps given to me, to a charity in hopes of "spreading the joy" in her words. To be dedicated and passionate enough to endure trying situations regardless of monetary gain, this, is what makes the Bakwuds so unique. I wish i could of stayed to talk with her longer but i had a much anticipated event to attend known as Cookie Day. |
